ANGELA KITON

Angela was born in Uzbekistan, in the family of exiled victims of Stalin repressions. Her mother moved to Moscow when Angela turned six years old and there she was admitted to Moscow linguistic school near the Precinct of the State Tretyakov Gallery, which collection is considered the largest depository of Russian fine art in the world.
Her interest in Art began at an early age, and the proximity of Tretyakov Gallery, would allow her to spend much time there observing and studying works by Wassily Kandinsky, Kazimir Malevich, Alexander Deineka, Vrubel M.A, Aivazovsky I.K, Kramskoy I.N, Venetzianov A.G, Kustodiev B.M. and many more.
Angela’s home was often host of eclectic groups of visitors, from musicians and artists to sports figures – an unusual combination, due to her mother being a pianist and her father- a professional hockey player.
Growing up in the somewhat colourless environment of the 1980 ies-USSR, she learnt to cope, by developing a rich imagination, which allowed her to retreat into her own world of day dreams, colour and fantasy. At around this time she started maturing artistic vision and inspiration appreciating Russian Avant-Garde and Masters like: Vasily Kandinsky, Kazimir Malevich, Natalya Goncharova, Michael Larionov, Vladimir Tatlin, Aleksander Archipenko, Aleksander Rodchenko, Zinaida Serebryakova, Pavel Filonov, Olga Rozanova.
The Soviet society at the time, did not place self expression at a premium, so she naturally also developed a thrust for fashion, costume designs from different cultures, styles, traditions as well as fabrics and textures.
She loved discovering the fascinating fairy tale of Haute Couture of designers like Coco Channel, Yve Saint Laurent, Pier Cardin, Christian Dior and later -Jean Paul Gaultier, Balenciaga, Vivienne Westwood, John Galliano, Ungaro, Alexander McQueen and so many more.
In 1991, at the urging of her family, Angela emigrated to Australia to reunite with her German ancestors in Sydney.
During her migration of 30 years in Australia she made several attempts to return to Moscow as emigration was not easy for her and she was deeply unhappy being far from Russia and her beloved Moscow, and only in 2020 did she manage to fulfill her dream.
Presently Angela continues painting and searching for the Simplicity of Beauty living in Moscow.
Angela’s works are in private collections around the world.
